Davido Win Bet Best International Act 2014

Just after winning the award for ‘Best African Act’ at the MTV Africa Music Awards some few months back, Davido has again won the award for the Best African artiste 2014 at the 2014 BET Awards which was held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, California held on Sunday 29th June

He took out Nigeria’s Tiwa Savage, South Africa’s Mafikizolo, Ghana’s Sarkodie, Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz and Togo’s Toofan to win the award.

5 Dead In Twin Explosions Lagos,

An explosions occurred on Wednesday night in Apapa area of Lagos , with sources claiming that five persons died while many were injured.

Sources told our correspondent that the explosions occurred almost at the same time, with the first at the entrance to the Folawiyo tank farm and the other inside the facility.

It was gathered that the explosion inside the tank farm left four people dead and many left injured.

According to sources, two petrol tankers were involved in the explosions. The trucks were said to have caught fire after they exploded.

Bomb Blast Hit Emab Plaza, In Abuja

After the bomb blast that rock the Capital city of Abuja, 21 persons have been confirmed dead and 17 injured in a bomb explosion that hit Emab Plaza, in Wuse 2, Abuja, Wednesday, police have said.

The blast occurred at the busy plaza at about 4p.m. local time, setting off a huge fire.

Witnesses say the explosion went off as an apparently bomb-laden car drove through the gate of the shopping mall. The explosion destroyed 17 cars, Mr. Mba said.

There are indications the casualty figures will rise. At the Maitama hospital were victims were rushed to, the medical director confirmed that 35 injured and 12 bodies were received.

Ride To Fame : Airport Staff Gets Employed By Don Jazzy

A Delta Airlines staff stationed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport got fired after he let Mavin Boss Don Jazzy drive an airport cart against the airline’s policy.

Carts were to be strictly driven by staff, unfortunately the star struck employee couldn't resist when Don Jazzy asked him to let him ride.

Prof. Dora Akunyili, Former NAFDAC Boss, Passes On.

Former Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and ex minister of Information, Professor Dora Akunyili, has died according to family source.

Dr Akunyili made an indelible impact during her tenure as Director General of Nigeria’s National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and her legacy will live on.

After Akunyili took over leadership of NAFDAC, she established as a top priority the eradication of counterfeit drugs and unsafe food. Before Akunyili assumed duty, Nigeria became a place where fake and substandard foods and drugs were being dumped without any form of regulations.

Nigeria- Censor’s Board : Half of A Yellow Sun May Ignite Violence

The National Film and Video Censors Board, NFVCB, has said that there is no definite date for the release of the Biafran war movie, Half of A Yellow Sun.

The chairman of the board, Patricia Bala, speaking on a radio programme, Productivity Trailblazers on Capital Fm 92.9 on Thursday, said that the cinema release of the film was delayed due to security challenges in Nigeria.

“Is it right to release such a film at this time with the security challenges in the country?” she asked the interviewer.

NYSC Passing Out Parade Canceled Nationwide Due Insecurity

There was no passing-out parade ceremony for the Batch B 2013/2014 corps members across Nigeria due to recent security challenges in the country.

The traditional parade was supposed to hold on Thursday, June 5 but was cancelled by the Nigerian government.

The parade is usually the last official function of the graduates as corps members before they are issued with their discharge certificates.

One of the corps members affected, Franka Onuche, who served in Rivers State, expressed her disappointment to reporters.

Igbo Leaders - Jonathan May be Nigeria’s Last President

Igbo Leaders of Thought, a group of prominent Igbo political leaders, rose from a meeting in Enugu State on Wednesday with a warning that President Goodluck Jonathan may become the last president of a united Nigeria, if politicians from the North East and North West continue to sponsor the activities of the Boko Haram sect.

The group maintained that the terror campaign of the sect was an ethno/religious war being waged by unnamed Northern political leaders who seek to take control of the Presidency.

The group, led by Prof. Ben Nwabueze, made this assertion in a statement by its Deputy Secretary, Evang. Elliot Uko, and the Leader of the Igbo Women Assembly, Chief Mrs Mariah Okwor.
