Ebola is in America: Dallas Man is Diagnosed With Disease

Federal health officials on Tuesday confirmed the first case of Ebola diagnosed in the U.S., a male patient who recently traveled from Liberia to Dallas and a sign of the far-reaching impact of the out-of-control epidemic in West Africa.

The unidentified patient was critically ill and has been in isolation at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, center, since Sunday, officials said. Health authorities have begun tracking down family and friends who may have had close contact with the patient and could be at risk for becoming ill. But officials said there are no other suspected cases in Texas.

A security contractor with a gun and three prior convictions for assault and battery was allowed on an elevator with President Obama during a Sept. 16 trip to Atlanta, violating Secret Service protocols, according to three people familiar with the incident.

Gov Babatunde Fashola — $9.3m Arms Deal Ridicules Nigeria Worldwide

Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, yesterday, said the alleged $9.3 million cash seized by the South African government has made the country a laughing stock worldwide.

Fashola also added that Abuja had not been consistent with information on the abducted Chibok girls and the attack on the Bama Community, saying; “Nigerians deserve to know the current state of the issues.”

Stephen Davis, the Australian who is famous to Nigerians for negotiating with Boko Haram leaders over the release of the Chibok girls, disclosed when the sect leader Abubakar Shekau was killed.

His claims follow the controversy surrounding the recent “killing” of “Shekau”. It was reported Sunday, September 21, that the commander, who has been mimicking Shekau” in recent videos was killed in Konduga September 17.

Nigerian Soldier Turns Barber : Soldier Arrested For Cutting Pastor’s Hair

The Nigerian Army, 3 Battalion Effurun, Delta State yesterday arrested an overzealous soldier on guard at the Alegbor Check point for violently cutting the hair of General Overseer and Founder, Tower of Faith Ministries, Rev. Felix Omas.

The humiliation of the clergy,infuriated the 3 Battalion’s command who promptly arrested and detained the soldier with promise to charge him for improper conduct.

Stash Of Ammo Found In White House intruder’s Car

A homeless US army veteran who jumped a fence and ran into the White House with a knife had more than 800 rounds of ammunition in his car, a court heard Monday.

Omar Gonzalez, 42, appeared in US District Court as Barack Obama’s spokesman said the president is “obviously concerned” by Friday’s stunning security breach.

Wearing an orange prison jumpsuit, Gonzalez stood impassively as US prosecutor David Mudd revealed that investigators had found the ammunition — “in boxes and magazines” — during a search of a car that was parked near the White House.

Also discovered were two hatchets and a machete, said Mudd, who made no mention of any firearms but described the accused as homeless, penniless and a flight risk.

Emeritus Professor of Medicine at the American College of Physicians and Provost, College of Medicine, Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, Prof Matthew Araoye has warned that cooking with salt and spices amounts to high salt intake and could lead to hypertension.

Araoye who spoke at the 32nd convocation of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, said findings have showed that surplus table salt in food increase hypertension risk.
Regretting high incidence of hypertension, he described it as the most common, potent and universal contributor to cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in the black race.

Nigerian Military Chiefs Summoned Over Seized $9.3m

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Defence and Army, Senator George Sekibo, has said the committee has invited the National Security Adviser and the military top brass over the $9.3m cash seized by the South African government.

Sekibo said this in an interview with reporters in Abuja, on Thursday.

Those invited include Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.); Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshall Alex Badeh, and Chief of Army Staff, Kenneth Minimah, over the alleged $9.3m controversial arms procurement deal.

Fuel Crisis Looms As Strike By Oil Workers Continues

Nigerians could experience acute petroleum products scarcity in the coming days if the strike by oil workers continues.

The strike by the main oil industry workers union entered the second day on Wednesday; as daily average fuel supply, particularly Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, commonly called petrol, dropped by more than 36 million litres. The industry’s senior staff union, Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, and its junior staff counterpart, National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, had on Tuesday called its member on an indefinite strike in sympathy with their colleagues in the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, who are pressing for the resolution of issues regarding pensions’ management.
