Tottenham 1 Manchester United 3: Young and Rooney punish slack Spurs defending

Manchester United eased to a comfortable win over Tottenham at White Hart Lane to close the gap on Premier League leaders Manchester City to two points.

As an uneventful first half drew to a close, first Emmanuel Adebayor's strike was ruled out for handball before Wayne Rooney headed the visitors in front.

Tottenham responded well after the break but were undone by two fine finishes from Ashley Young.

The forward volleyed home from Nani's cross before curling in his second from the edge of the box.

Jermain Defoe scored a consolation for the home side with three minutes remaining, firing past David De Gea from 20 yards out.
