The Young Conversations: Young, Restless And Free!

This is the best time of my life, Who wouldn't want to be young, perhaps even young forever? Nice right? My apologies though, it’s not going to happen!  My definition of  ‘young’ is an intentionally vague word to use here, so don’t restrict yourself to thinking that it’s confined to months and years. Being young is an attitude, NOT age.

It’s 2013, but its amazing the negative social tags still given to young people. Some ‘older’ folks think that a ‘young’ person is a burden, a threat (in the business world), or a ‘Second Class Citizen’ –Why is it that in ‘extremely intense situations’, it’s always the young ones who are quickly accused, lambasted, derided etc before proper investigations or relevant enquiries?

Last week, a young man in my neighborhood was accused of stealing (eventually found innocent). The searchlight was on him for a combination of reasons. Could it have been any better if he was more mature, older and wiser? Perhaps. However, apparently, he was young enough to want the laptop, young enough to want to steal it and young enough to be apprehended without any evidence.

It’s horrible to be discriminated against just because you are young. It s a glorious time, yes, but like every other stage in life comes with its own enormous baggage.

The mistakes, temptations, victories ‘uphills’, ‘downhills’, doubts, frustrations and more are all part of the baggage. Being young isn’t only a challenge; it’s a choice-a valuable one at that, and one of the greatest times ever. Like every other platform though, creating a balance is important. I’m excited as I look forward to being the person I intend to be. And I’m even more determined to enjoy the process, while I do so.
Create that balance between school, social life, friends and family. It’s about managing your time, but most importantly managing yourself.

When exactly would you like to change the world? Now is not too late. Inspire everyone around you, influence positively, be focused, consistent, persistent and yes, yes, yes organised!

You and your belief in yourself are your greatest tools. Being young is one of the most beautiful times in our lives, it's short, it’s brief and so precious.
