Plane Conveying Late Dr. Olusegun Agagu Corpse Crash In Lagos


The plane carrying the corpse of former Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Agagu, who died recently crashed earlier today in Lagos, it is confirmed that 22 passengers were aboard the crashed plane. 

According to THIS DAY,FAAN’s spokesman, Mr Yakubu Datti has confirmed the death of 17 passengers, while five passengers sustained injuries.

Aboard the ill fated plane were also Agagu’s only son, Feyi, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mr Deji Falae and a staff in the Protocol Department of the Governor’s office, Mr Layi Daji.
Also on board were Mr Tunji Okusanja Jr and his father, Tunji Okusanja. However, while Okusanja senior is said to have sustained injuries and unconscious, his son is believed to have been among those that died. The Okusanja family owns the MIC Caskets, a popular funeral undertakers in Lagos Island.

Agagu’s corpse has been taken to the Nigerian Airforce base.

An official from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) said the crash occurred in the fuel dump area of the airport and caught fire.

it is still not clear as to how many died in the crash but Dr Oke Osayintolu, the General Manager of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, confirmed that 11 occupants of the aircraft died, while four other passengers were taken to the hospital.

Mr Rask Fadipe, the Director of Lagos State Fire Service, said they were notified of the incident at 9:30 am on Thursday morning.

The aircraft was broken into two pieces with the front section burnt beyond recognition and the back area almost intact, the fire official said.

He said the aircraft contained a coffin and other burial materials.

Rescue officials said the coffin had been safely recovered by local welders who managed to cut through the luggage compartment of the aircraft.
