The REAL Exorcism That Inspired The Classic Film

In 1949, the church was brought into a St Louis, Missouri, school to purge the demon from a young 'possessed' boy. Now, 64 years on, Jesuit scholars, bottom right, are remembering those events on which the 1973 film The Exorcist was based, left. Among the reverends involved was the late Walter H. Halloran, top right, who remained skeptical about whether the boy was truly possessed.

A panel debate in the town where it all took place has left local residents divided on whether the child really was bedeviled.
