Kanye West and Kim Kardashian Files Lawsuit Against YouTube Co-Founder Chad Hurley
Kanye West and Kim Kardashian have filed a lawsuit against Chad Hurley for leaking their proposal video.
According to TMZ, Hurley was not invited to the event, but was somehow able to manipulate his way inside. He was allowed to stay only after signing and posing with a confidentiality agreement.
The lawsuit states that "Hurley proceeded to try to turn the event into one starring himself, broadcasting the images he knew were the exclusive property rights of someone else."
West and Kardashian say Hurley was desperate to try and get his MixBit venture off the ground by posting the video there.
The private proposal video was headed to "MC Cable Television, which is an arm of Bunim/Murray and E!, which produces and broadcasts Keeping Up with the Kardashians."
The couple are suing for punitive and other unspecified damages.
The leak of Kanye West's proposal video to Kim Kardashian was traced back to YouTube co-founder Chad Hurley.
It wasn't exactly hard to find out who the culprit was since Hurley tweeted the clip to his half million Twitter followers on Tuesday (October 22). He also sent it to several news outlets, along with a short press release, according to Vanity Fair.
“the orchestra and lights show in anticipation of the proposal, Kanye down on one knee, the reaction from family and friends, and the celebration and toasting to the newly engaged couple afterwards.”
Hurley uploaded the video on the new MixBit app he created along with partner Steve Chen.
The leak probably stole a considerable amount of viewers from E! The network is planning to use footage of the event in an upcoming episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
