Boko Haram Hitting Its Mark As Students Flee From School in North East Nigeria

Would you blame them? terrified students in northeast Nigeria have fled boarding schools after an attack by suspected Boko Haram extremists in which 59 students were shot and hacked to death and the whole school razed.

Students refused to stay overnight in their schools and colleges in the wake of the attack on the Federal Government College in Buni Yadi, Yobe state on Tuesday.

“Most students of boarding secondary schools have vacated their hostels and moved back to their homes after news of the Buni Yadi attack,” Yunusa Ahmed, who lives in the state capital Damaturu, told AFP.

Ahmed’s son is currently studying at the city’s Government Secondary School but has now moved back home along with two classmates.

“They went to school but returned after classes ended because they where too afraid to sleep in the school for fear of a Boko Haram attack,” Ahmed said.

Boko Haram, which translates roughly from Hausa as “Western education is sin”, rejects a so-called Western curriculum and has burnt hundreds of schools in its four-and-a-half year fight to create an Islamic state in the north.

Last October Yobe state authorities said Boko Haram fighters burnt down 209 schools, causing damage worth an estimated $15.6 million (11.4 million euros).

The attacks are taking their toll on education in a region that already lags behind the rest of Nigeria in social and economic development.

Joe Igbokwe = The Coward Called Asari Dokubo And His Empty Threats

We live in interesting times in Nigeria today. Cowards and Villains nobody knew when it mattered most in Nigeria between 1985 and 1998 are the ones terrorizing Nigeria today. Lily-livered men without bones who could not raise a voice in the days of locusts are the ones telling us today that they are courageous and strong. Men who are women who could not stand up the way the Late Ken Sarowiwa stood up to Abacha Regime are now the common fools abusing our nationhood.

Now enter Asari Dokubo, the emergency activist, the only bold one in Nigeria, the man stronger than all the armies of Nigeria. Nigeria can never change. Some of the things we accused Northern Military leaders of doing from 1985 to 1998 are repeating itself today in Nigeria. Sectional Politics, Ethnic preoccupation, Mediocracy, Favoritism and impunity are driving leadership in Nigeria today.

Atiku Abubakar Dumps PDP For APC

Former Vice President of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has dumped the party which gave him a platform to be Nigeria’s Vice President from 1999 to 2007, stating that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has lost touch with Nigerians and can no longer be redeemed.

It will be recalled that Atiku also left the party in 2007 to contest the presidential election on the platform of the Action Congress (AC) before returning to the PDP in 2009.

He has updated his twitter handle to include the emblem of All Progressive Congress ,APC), his new political party.

Below is the full press statement, announcing the decamping of Atiku from PDP to APC.

Our Politicians And Us: Who Is The Fool?

THE beauty of science is that, it is empirical – smell, touch and see - so, we can deduce from our senses and observations. It is also logical. The science of Politics is not different; based on what we observe, we can reach conclusions. It is so everywhere, polls are conducted and most times, the results of the polls turn out to be the true position.

Look at the situation in the Nigerian politics of today, the behavioural patterns of our politics, can you reach conclusion on what the outcome of 2015 election will be?

Already, the Americans are prognosising Hilary Clinton and Chris Christie for their next election, what are we in Nigeria doing? Even, when you try to objectively assess, based on what is happening, our – all too know – critics punch holes in one’s submissions, based on sentiments and other bias.

We will not stop making our analysis known to the majority of Nigerians, who deserve to be truly informed, instead of the abracadabra, that we now witness.
