Etisalat Career Counselling Initiative

Nigeria’s fastest growing and most innovative telecommunications company, Etisalat, has again demonstrated commitment to empowering Nigerian youth through proper education.

The assurance was edition of its Career Counselling programme attended by students from ten secondary schools from district 3 of Lagos State at The Red Carpet, Oniru Lagos.

Head,Human Resource Operations, Etisalat Nigeria, Mr. Yemi Faseun, explained the initiative as a demonstration of the company’s commitment to the development of the society, adding that it enables Etisalat staff to live up to one of the company’s core values.

“We are aware that students need appropriate guidance when making career choices because a wrong career move may have negative long-term effects. At the Career Counselling programme, Etisalat staff volunteer their time and skills to provide proper career mentorship to those who desperately require such guidance - students of secondary schools.” he said.

Faseun added that: “The career counselling programme is a value addition to our Adopt-A-School Initiative, in partnership with the Lagos State Government. It is an on-going project through which Etisalat staff volunteer their time to teach these students as this is an integral part of our Corporate Social Responsibility values,” he stated.

Also speaking at the event, Senior Project Officer, Lagos Empowerment and Resource Network, Mrs. Tonne Saheed thanked Etisalat for investing in the education of the Nigerian youths. “Selecting a career can be a tough task for anyone.

As such, these students need to be counselled on how to go about making positive life career choices for their future. This partnership with Etisalat Nigeria gives the Nigerian teenager the much needed hope for a brighter tomorrow. As such, I am glad that Etisalat is a key facilitator of hope for our youths” she said.

Participants the session comprised of students from Wahab Folawiyo Junior and Senior Secondary School, Victoria Island Junior and Senior Secondary School, Kuramo Junior and Senior Secondary School, Government Junior and Senior Secondary School, and Akande Dahunsi Memorial Junior and Senior Secondary

The event aimed at educating students on the basics making the right career choice was organised in conjunction with Lagos Empowerment and Resource Network (LEARN), an NGO founded by the First Lady of Lagos State,Mrs.Abimbola Fashola.

Other education empowerment programmes conducted by Etisalat Nigeria include the Etisalat Telecommunications Engineering Program, in partnership with Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Plymouth University UK, and the Etisalat Academy, UAE; permanent adoption of primary schools and a secondary school; scholarships to meritorious undergraduates of various Nigerian universities, through the Etisalat Merit Awards Scheme; and a Teacher Training Programme on English language in different geographic regions of Nigeria.
