Miss Philippines Megan Young, Crowned Miss World

I promise to be the best Miss World ever,' said the teary-eyed 23-year-old Megan Young today after being crowned Miss World 2013.

She beat 127 contestants vying for the crown - all of whom took to the stage wearing a range of shimmering and sequined evening gowns.

The 23-year-old brunette beauty, who wore a glamorous pink fishtail dress, won the 63rd annual beauty pageant on Indonesia's resort island of Bali. The final round was held amid tight security after ongoing protests by Muslim extremists - who branded the iconic competition as 'pornography' and a 'whore contest'.

Miss France Marine Lorphelin (second left) was crowned runner-up, while Miss Ghana Carranzar Naa Okailey Shooter (right) came in third
