Jay talked about his drug dealing past in a recent interview with Vanity Fair's Lisa Robinson. He said the knowledge he gained from his illegal activities would help in his latest venture as a sports agent.
“I know about budgets. I was a drug dealer,” he told Robinson. “To be in a drug deal, you need to know what you can spend, what you need to re-up. Or if you want to start some sort of barbershop or car wash—those were the businesses back then. Things you can get in easily to get out of [that] life. At some point, you have to have an exit strategy, because your window is very small; you’re going to get locked up or you’re going to die.”
Freeway Ricky, who ran a multi-million dollar drug empire in the late 80's before getting busted called Hov out during a new interview with the Murder Master Music Show,
"I've been hitting these high schools up letting them know about these dudes that's out here faking. Talking about they sold dope. And you read that sh*t and it's so corny," Ross said. "I was just reading on the airplane the other day the Vanity Fair with Jay Z in it, talking about he sold crack. Just reading that story was so corny. These dudes don't keep it 100. They was good boys and went to school and got college degrees. Somebody gave them a good job and they're doing alright right now. Everybody wanna be d-boys, but they don't have real d-boy stories. When you read what they said it looks like a news reporter wrote it for them."Freeway Ricky was even more harsh in his assessment of rapper Rick Ross.
I believe [rapper Ross] is being financed by the police unions to keep spreading bullsh*t to the youngsters, so they can keep filling up the penitentiaries,
" Freeway continued. "Because he ain't selling no music. They keep playing him on the radio and keep putting out these big expensive videos, but he ain't selling no music. So somebody is sh*tting off money. I believe it's the police unions behind it."
